All you would normally have to bring would be Bottom sheets, Duvet covers, Pillow cases and towels. A couple of tea towels also would be handy! Also, EUROPEAN socket adaptors. Get them at the ferry port, or on the ferry, or airport. They are difficult to find in France.
We strongly advise you to take out both health and car cover. Shop around to find the best family deal.(Tescos, Sainsburys,Norwich Union etc.) Ask what you are NOT covered for health wise.(think kids playing games on the beach etc.. think grown ups joining in activities. Think being flown home.)…..Please… just ask the question. The insurance company has to tell you! Your NHS European Health Insurance Card might not be enough.(www.dh.gov.uk/travellers) Check with your car insurance co. do you have foreign accident and breakdown cover and to what level.
French roads are good to drive on. Apart from the major cities you hardly ever see a traffic jam. Just take your time and plan your Route. Carry a map. If you do get lost look for a sign in the town or village that you are in which says “TOUTES DIRECTIONS” or “AUTRE DIRECTIONS” these will lead you to the nearest main road. Observe the same highway laws as in Britain and Ireland and you will be okay. There are a few MUSTS: You MUST carry a REFLECTIVE JACKET in case of accident or breakdown. You MUST have a RED TRIANGLE in case of above You MUST switch on your HAZARD warning lights again in case of above. You MUST have headlight deflectors on righthand drive cars. Get them on the ferry or at the port. Always carry identity/and insurance documents with you.
