What’s the Weather Like in Brittany?

What’s the first thing that you look for when booking a holiday? The climate of the destination of course!

It’s something that we get asked a lot about when people start the booking process with us for family holidays in Brittany especially. Because we get asked it so frequently, we thought it would be a great idea to discuss the wonderful weather that we have here in Brittany!

The Brittany Climate

Brittany has quite a temperate climate, meaning warmer winters than the UK and summers which can reach up to around 30 degrees.

However, this heat is made more bearable by the cooling winds which come off the Atlantic ocean, making summers much more bearable than some other destinations which reach the same temperatures. The cooling, moisture-rich air will keep you cool even on the warmest of days- something that many families will appreciate! No one wants over hot, over tired children while on holiday!

The warmer winters are also a highlight, with temperatures rarely dropping below 8 degrees in most areas. This makes it an ideal destination for an exciting winter getaway from the cold climate of the UK at the festive time of year!

What Weather Can I Expect?

In Brittany, the weather is generally quite pleasant, but it isn’t adverse to the conditions you will find in the UK.

Downpours aren’t rare, and sometimes a single day can contain multiple weather experiences- ranging from torrential downpours to blazing sunshine. We think that this is one of the reasons that we love Brittany so much- you never know what the weather is going to be like!

However, if you are coming with expectations of glorious beach weather, then don’t be disheartened! When the sun is in the sky, you can expect some of the most comfortable beach-time possible, and what’s more, you’ll get to experience the glistening beaches and coastlines of Brittany. It’s definitely something that you should see, so just wait- the sun will come out, we promise!

Should I Come Prepared?

Due to the unpredictable nature of our weather, we’d definitely recommend packing a coat, just in case!

We’d rather you come prepared for all weathers and expect them, than to come armed with just beachwear and a towel and spending some of your holiday miserable because you hadn’t planned for a rainy spell.

There is plenty to do while you are here, no matter what weather you come across! Brittany is an incredibly diverse place, both in it’s local culture and the weather that we experience. Rain or shine, we’ll always have something you can enjoy- whether it be walking along the scenic coastal paths or relaxing on the beautiful beaches.
